In 1988, the Millie Head Scholarship was named in honor of the late Mrs. William "Billy" Head as a Community
Supported scholarship award for the winner of the Miss Oldham County Fair Pageant. This scholarship has become a prestigious
part of the Miss Oldham County Fair Program.
Our goal is to provide a method for empowering young women
to achieve their personal and professional goals, while providing an opportunity for them to express their opinions, talents,
and intelligence. We feel there is no better way to do so then to invest in their education.
In years past, the
Miss Oldham County Fair Pageant winner has received a $500.00 Millie Head Scholarship. Since the price of college tuition
is on the rise, the Miss Oldham County Fair Program has set a goal to give the winner a $1000.00 scholarship. The scholarship is
sent directly to the winners post-secondary school of enrollment to help cover the cost of tuition.
The Millie
Head Scholarship award depends solely on donations from the community. All donations are tax deductible and can make
a difference in the life of one lucky young woman. With the lack of interest in the fair and pageant programs alike,
the future of this long-standing tradition is up to the people that Miss Oldham County Fair represents.
